Unforgettable Suzhou Experience ♥
Sunday, April 22, 2012
Last Sunday, I just came back from a memorable trip to Suzhou, China. 6 weeks of internship programme there was a very enriching and unforgettable experience to many of us~!Initially when I applied, there was lots of excitement and anticipation. Then when it was nearing the departure date, I started to worry if my decision was right, whether I could pull through this 6 weeks away from home. I was never away for so long in my life, away from my parents and the comfortable life I’ve always lead. So with that unsettled heart I left, early in the morning on 7th March to Changi T3. The 5-hours ride was longggg! The first thing that greeted us when we landed was the cold air! The sudden temperature difference was great enough to tell us we were in China! We towed our heavy luggage from Putong Airport to the carpark. It was no easy feat! Especially when we had to carry the bags up a level to where the coach was. The first week was spent in Suzhou visiting the local Suzhou University. We attended lectures and went sight-seeing in Shanghai. The activities were so packed we were kept busy throughout the first week~ Spamming moisturiser and lip balm was another important procedure! Skin cracks easily in the low temperature of 7~14°C. While in Shanghai’s street near 城隍庙, we had their local delicacies like wonton soup, tangyuan, 汤包 and the long-anticipated 小龙包!!! Good food and shopping indeed makes one happy and relaxed! Not to forget the strawberry 冰糖葫芦 was also our all-time favourite during our stay in Suzhou!
There were really so much to see and try! We went to visit the pearl tower and took a ferry ride to view the shanghai city. All the food there were reallyyyyy~ :D In the 6 weeks, we also spammed lots of bubble tea! Ok I know we have lots of bubble tea here, but they have those hot beverages where it really feels damn shiok in the cold weather!
After the first week of fun and relaxation, the subsequent 5 weeks were spent working in the companies there. I was posted to Worldmark China and the colleagues there were really nice! They taught me lots of things with great patience and effort! Though I was really busy in the attachment period, the nice people there sort of made up for the busy and hectic life there~ Have got a colleague Janny who shared with me so much of her snacks! She made me fell in love with the 脱水蛋糕!!! She even bought me a bag to share with my friends! The weekends were also utilised to the fullest! We went to 陈总’s house and had a home-cooked lunch. Then on other weekends we went Wuxi with Suzhou University’s lecturer, joined a one-day tour to 乌镇 and 杭州!!! We even had crazy KTV nights from 12 midnight till 6 in the mornings! All these fun we had bonded us greatly during these 6 weeks!
And not to forget the daily dinner meetups we have over the 6 weeks of stay in Suzhou. Our “Meet Lobby at 7pm” texts and “您好,这是前台~“ jokes really stayed in our memories! Of course our favourite hangouts after work such as 欧尚,印象城 and 平江路~! <3 Celebrations were also part of our memories! With Fancy and Yixiu being the birthday girls during the stay! Had lots of fun all thanks to their birthdays celebration! Hope they too will have an unforgettable celebration with us~ XD The post-celebration for Yixiu’s birthday was at 平江路. Tried the water-smoke (Shisha) for the first time! It was a strawberry flavoured one some more! Charmaine joker some more say cannot share with Lawson and insisted on changing the mouthpiece every time when it was her turn to smoke it~ Hahahahaahas!
And if you ask me, I’ll recommend 阿二生煎包 at 山塘街!! Though we later discovered 生煎包 of similar standards and 哑巴生煎 near motel 168 (where we’re staying), the first impression is still always the best! They have a momi cafe there too, where we later discovered two branches located in 平江路~ We sent postcards to one another and bought the overseas postage. Now, I'm anticipating the card tzeying sent me! ^^ They also have the "send-a-postcard-to-the-future" service where you can write a postcard and send it to be received 10/20 years later!
Well time passes quickly when you’re having fun. This statement couldn’t be more true. All the fun times we had made the 6 weeks trip a fun yet short one! Very soon it was time to bade farewell to Suzhou and head back to Singapore. To the colleagues there where I’m working with, “Thanks for making my attachment experience in Worldmark a very enriching one. Though you guys may never see this, I still wanna thanks all of you for being a great host to me. The HR department taught me a lot and showed me how a real Human Resource department functions in a company. It was really an eye-opener in the short 5 weeks I’ve served, 谢谢你们!"
The Saturday we departed was a crazy one! Went on a last-minute shopping frenzy to get all the stuffs we missed! Did coning with Yixiu too and it was hilarious seeing the McDonald's staff expression! Priceless~ (Y) Also had a manicure session in their bugis-like mall 阿里吧吧淘淘包! Fancy, tzeying and me had healthy and good-looking nails after they helped us remove all the dead cuticles!
All in all, this 6 weeks was a very unforgettable experience! It was all thanks to the people who made my time such a wonderful one! If there was any word to describe this stay, it would be awesome. It is because of the friends that made this trip such a memorable one. Although we do not know one another before the trip, we really bonded well during the 6 weeks! Everyone felt like a big family together~ We took care of one another, shared our working experiences and had lots of fun together. All these would not be possible without the help of our Suzhou leader and assistant leader. Thank you Lawson and Yunhui, for taking great care of us during this period. Last but not least, thank you to all the others in the Suzhou team~ Gimmm Tzeying, Zhizhang yixiu, Poser Charmaine, Rival Fancy, Shermaine, Haolun and Dylan. We may have little conflicts here and there during the 6 weeks, but without one another, it would be impossible to have so much fun in Suzhou. I will miss all the chatty dinners and crazy shopping sprees with all of you! Hope we do organise meetups occasionally to keep in touch with one another! |
Goodbye.
